PURE RUBBISH Done 'Horrific Disservice' By VARIETY's KELLY OSBOURNE Article
January 10, 2003Houston's PURE RUBBISH have issued the following statement via their management company, Singerman Entertainment (MOTÖRHEAD, ZEBRAHEAD, MISFITS, SLAVES ON DOPE):
"Variety [the premier publication of the entertainment industry—ed.] has done a horrific disservice to our band, PURE RUBBISH. In their review of Kelly Osbourne's performance December 29th at the Roxy Theater [in West Hollywood, California], their review listed PURE RUBBISH (by band name and individually) as her backing band. The review devoted the better part of two paragraphs to the band, referring [to] them as 'awful.'
"There is only one problem... PURE RUBBISH did not perform with Kelly at the Roxy show!
"While it is true that PURE RUBBISH did back up their old friend Kelly at the MTV Video Awards last spring to critical acclaim, the band had to decline her invitation to continue in that role so as to concentrate on writing new material for their own band.
"The article also referenced the band being signed to the Osbourne-owned Divine label and that is also not accurate. With the folding of Priority Records, which was Divine's parent company, along with the success of their television program, Divine came to a close. With the help of Sharon, the band is in the final stages of finalizing a deal with Roadrunner.
"Variety is a respected publication and a very major catalyst when it comes to the success or failure of artists, and to receive a scathingly negative review of a show they never played is a horrible mistake that the band has already felt negative repercussions from. To make matters worse, this same 'review' has been picked up by Reuters and MSNBC! As you know, this business is hard enough for a band to break into and they certainly do not need false information being written about them."
PURE RUBBISH's full-length debut, "Glamorous Youth", was recorded back in late 2000 through early 2001 and produced by Mike Clink (GUNS N' ROSES),but never officially released. Four songs from the sessions with alternate mixes were issued in the form of PURE RUBBISH's self-titled EP, which surfaced through Divine in the summer of 2001. The debut PURE RUBBISH album is still in the works, to be released under a new, as-yet-undisclosed title later in the year.
