Report: BYZANTINE Represents Metal With A Message

Justin McElroy of The Herald-Dispatch reports that though environmental issues and Appalachian history aren't at the forefront of most metal, one Huntington man, along with the rest of his band BYZANTINE, is attempting to be the first.

With a recent nationally released CD, and profiles in magazines Guitar One and Revolver, it would seem they're succeeding.

Tony Rohrbough, 31, grew up in Weston, W.Va., where he started playing at 13 on what he describes as a "cheap acoustic I just got out of a catalog." In his musical larva stage, he was influenced by guitarist Steve Vai, but says that METALLICA's "Master of Puppets" album is what allowed him to emerge from his cocoon, so to speak. [Read more]
