Report: Christian Metalcore Bands Rocking For Salvation

David Lindquist of IndyStar.com reports: On a recent Saturday night at the Emerson Theater, teenagers and twentysomethings waited outside the door and around the corner of 10th Street and Bosart Avenue more than an hour before show time.

They sported black shirts, piercings and tattoos — the acknowledged wardrobe and accessories for fans of "metalcore," a musical style that bridges the gap between hardcore punk and heavy metal.

They were there to see four bands known for their messages of Christian salvation.

The sounds are brutal, and the sermons are subtle. A Christian metalcore concert has little in common with a tent revival or Gaither family "Homecoming." Here, the spirit can be taken or left alone.

"It's music," says Mark LaFay, the show's promoter and manager of two bands on the bill — Carmel-based HASTE THE DAY and Michigan's STILL REMAINS. "A lot of kids who are into this music don't really care where the band is coming from. They like to go to shows because they're fun and they want to mosh." Read more.
