Report: GWAR's DAVE BROCKIE Was 'Sitting Upright In A Chair' When He Was Found Dead

March 24, 2014

According to TMZ.com, GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (a.k.a. Oderus Urungus) was "sitting upright in a chair" when he was found dead at his home in Richmond, Virginia Sunday evening. An unnamed law enforcement source is reported as saying that suicide is not suspected and no note was found.

Richmond police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said officers were called to a residence in the 4800 block of the city's West Seminary Avenue at 6:53 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a dead person. They found Brockie dead inside.

According to Waugh, detectives do not suspect foul play at this time.

Brockie's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

As a member of GWAR, Brockie performed on stage as Oderus Urungus, an intergalactic humanoid barbarian with devil horns and a meaty-looking face, carrying a long sword called an "Unt Lick."

GWAR was founded 30 years ago with Brockie at the helm, and became known for its brand of thrash metal as well as its boisterous and controversial stage antics. The group's video clips were also staples of the MTV show "Beavis And Butt-Head".
