Report: Sister of Alrosa Villa Shooting Victim Speaks Out, One Year Later

Kevin Landers of Columbus, Ohio's WBNS-10TV has issued the following report:

One year ago, a killer stopped the music at the Alrosa Villa nightclub. Nathan Gale shot four people to death before a police officer ended the carnage by killing him. Now, the sister of one of the victims, Erin Halk of Westerville, talks for the first time to 10TV about the tragedy and the legacy she hopes it leaves.

Erin Halk was 29-years-old when he stepped in front of man with a gun at Alrosa Villa.

"The people I talked to who were there that night said he saved their lives, so to remember him a savior a hero," Halk's sister Melissa said.

It was a year ago Thursday, around 10:30, when heavy metal band DAMAGEPLAN just started to play. Erin Halk was working the stage that night. "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was the band's lead guitarist. He and three others were killed that night including the shooter, Nathan Gale.

"He went over and may have pulled a table on him," Melissa said. "Or went to hit him and got shot five times."

Melissa says she wants people to use the anniversary as a call to change.

"They need to remember on some basis what happened," Melissa said. "But I want them to think of it as ways to change whether it be more security or not fences blocking people out."

The investigation would reveal Nathan Gale climbed a fence and entered the club through an unsecured door that led to the stage.

A lawsuit against the club's owner claims inadequate security contributed to the shooting spree.
