Review: CLUTCH Joined By SUPERJOINT RITUAL Guitarist At Michigan Concert
February 10, 2004Shawn Humphrey of the Flint Journal reports that CLUTCH's sold-out show Saturday night (Feb. 7) at the Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan featured surprise guest guitarist Jimmy Bower. Bower, who has spent time in several established heavy rock/metal bands, including DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and SUPERJOINT RITUAL, sat in with the band during its closing number, "Super Grass". "He's in so many bands that if I started listing them right now it'd take 15 minutes," lead singer Neil Fallon joked as he stepped on stage.
CLUTCH skated past the angst-ridden alternative rock scene of the '90s with a powerful rock sound and storytelling lyrics. Their sound Saturday night defied most genre rules, selectively taking from complex musical inspirations while boiling everything down to a set loaded with heavy, action-packed choruses devoid of ballads.
