SCORPIONS Frontman Talks About MTV's 30th Anniversary
July 25, 2011Original MTV VJs and current SiriusXM'80s On 8 DJs Martha Quinn, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood recently got together to discuss MTV's 30th anniversary. Klaus Meine of the SCORPIONS called in to talk about MTV's early days, and the "I Want My MTV" catchphrase. Check out a video clip of Meine's appearance below.
According to AL.com. MTV's first broadcast, on August 1. 1981, started with footage of Apollo 11 and an introduction from co-creator John Lack. He said, "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll." Hunter, a Birmingham native, was the first video jockey to appear on screen. He was a highly visible figure at MTV from 1981 to 1987.
