SCORPIONS: New Audio Interview With RUDOLF SCHENKER Posted Online

Classic Rock Revisited's Jake Willoughby caught up with SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker to discuss the band's decision to retire after the next album and tour. The SCORPIONS announced that following the March release of its upcoming album "Sting In the Tail", and a nearly three-year world tour — the band will split for good.

The band broke the news on Sunday (January 24) on its web site with a statement saying in part: "It was always our pleasure, our purpose in life, our passion and we were fortunate enough to make music for you — whether it was live on stage or in the studio, creating new songs. While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was — and how much fun we were still having, in the process. But there was also something else: We want to end the SCORPIONS' extraordinary career on a high note. . . This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road."

The statement went on to say: "We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years."

Vocalist Klaus Meine says that the band's ultimate legacy is that their music now spans several generations. "It was not only the fans who grew up with our music in the '80s, but there were a lot of kids, also — like, 16, 17, 18-year-olds — singing 'Blackout' and 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'," he said. "And it was just great to see that our music obviously has the power to cross over to a new generation."

"Sting In The Tail" will be released on March 23. The SCORPIONS' tour will kick off in Germany in May. After that, the band will hit North America before they continue their journey through five other continents until winding down in 2012.
