SHARON OSBOURNE On JACK's Substance Abuse: 'I Should Have Had More Boundaries'
June 13, 2003Sharon Osbourne has revealed in a brand-new interview with USAToday.com that she is blaming herself for son Jack's turn to drugs and alcohol. "You get caught up with the BS, and I did, of, 'Oh, your mom's really cool. She's really easygoing.' I should have had more boundaries. I should have had more structure for Jack."
"He's feeling right now that he's got no pressure on him at all," she said of Jack's stint in rehab. "And he can be a kid. And he's with all kids his own age. He doesn't have to be anything but Jack."
Meanwhile, Jack's sister Kelly admitted to Mirror.co.uk that she became very concerned about her brother's well-being several months ago. "I started getting really worried about him, I didn't like what he was doing and didn't like his friends," she explained. "We used to be so close. I tried to tell him to wake up but he wouldn't listen. If I mentioned the drinking he'd knock me about — when you're abusing yourself you don't want to hear people telling you to stop. It nearly destroyed our relationship, it got so far down hill we hated each other."
Kelly, however, doesn't completely agree that with Sharon that the family's showbiz lifestyle, especially "The Osbournes" TV show, is to blame for Jack's troubles.
"When you read interviews with celebrities' kids and why they've screwed up it's always about their father never being there," she explained. "They use that as an excuse. I can't relate to that crap you just think fucking shut up.
"I don't think Jack's problems were about having Ozzy Osbourne as a dad, it was about growing up," she continued. "He got so wrapped up in trying to be this cool kid everyone loved he got frightened people wouldn't like him and so he tried to impress. I suppose an element of that is the show but I don't regret it. You make your own choices no matter who your parents are. Because of my dad it sometimes seems like people are waiting for us to fuck up. They want to be able to say he's been a bad influence. But that's not the way it works. We were taught right from wrong."
