SILVERCHAIR Frontman Receives Alternative Treatment For Reactive Arthritis

SILVERCHAIR singer-songwriter Daniel Johns is currently seeking alternative treatments in California for a rare case of reactive arthritis that has been giving him some pretty nasty side effects.

"It's going really, really well," Johns said of the new treatments. "A lot better than I ever expected. I was on a cane, and it took me 10 minutes to walk about 10 meters. I was literally that slow, and since I've been here I've been getting all alternative treatments and gradually coming off the Western medicine because it was just making me more dependent on the drugs and giving me less ability to actually get up. And yeah, since I've been here I'm off the cane and walking well. I can play guitar for about 10 or 15 minutes a day. It's definitely getting better. And it's getting better pretty quick, too. It's only been about six weeks.

"I was at home for about nine months with it and couldn't get off the lounge and was just in constant pain all the time and taking about 12 painkillers a day and taking valium to stop me from getting these pain attacks where I would start shaking and convulsing...I just couldn't see any future where I was going to get better."

SILVERCHAIR had originally planned to perform a few shows in support of their recently-released Diorama album in June and July, but the gigs were eventually cancelled due to the singer's condition. Johns is optimistic he'll be ready to go for a few shows here or there by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
