SILVERCHAIR To Play 'Secret' Show In Sydney; More Details About Upcoming CD Revealed
March 12, 2006Australia's SILVERCHAIR will be doing a very special warm-up show in Sydney Thursday night (March 16) as SHORT ELVIS (the name they had before they were called INNOCENT CRIMINALS). They will be supported by guest DJ Seymour Butz. The "undercover" gig will happen at the Gaelic Theatre in Devonshire Street Surry Hills. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the Gaelic Theatre is only open to people who are 18 years or older and carrying valid ID. There are no exceptions whatsoever to this rule due to government licensing laws.
SILVERCHAIR will perform on March 19 at the Rockit Festival in WA, March 24 at the Clipsal in Adelaide and on April 14 at Sydney's Great Escape festival.
SILVERCHAIR recently confirmed rumors that they are currently making music together in regional New South Wales. The band will start recording their new album around May/June for a late 2006 or early 2007 release.
The trio has sold more than six million albums during the last ten years. Their most recent CD — 2002's "Diorama" — was their most acclaimed and their highest seller in Australia to date.
In a recent interview with Australia's Rolling Stone magazine (for its April 2006 issue),SILVERCHAIR mainman Daniel Johns revealed that he has written around 45 songs for the upcoming CD, but the band have rehearsed only 20 of them. "I don't want to be part of this double-album tidal wave," he explained. He talked happily in colorful abstracts about his vision for SILVERCHAIR's fifth album. "If 'Diorama' was like a painting, this is more like a sculpture. It's not going to sound as professional or nice. I'm really proud of 'Diorama', but this one I'd like to make more dirge-y and swollen and infected. Some of this album is heavy, but not like heavy rock; it's not 'Wolfmother'. It's more angular and heavy in terms of the emotion, a lot of KRAFTWERK-inspired zone-out, done by a rock band. I want it to be sprawling and unpredictable. If people like it, they like it. I know I'm going to like it.” Later he mentioned TALKING HEADS' "Remain in Light" and BRIAN ENO's "Here Come the Warm Jets" as important influences on the forthcoming album.
