Singer Of JAKE E. LEE's New Band Apologizes For 'F**king Up' Debut Live Show
December 16, 2013The singer for Jake E. Lee's (OZZY OSBOURNE, BADLANDS) new group RED DRAGON CARTEL has apologized to fans and his bandmates for "fucking up" RED DRAGON CARTEL's first-ever live show.
RED DRAGON CARTEL, which is scheduled to release its self-titled album in January, made its live debut this past Thursday, December 12 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.
The performance received a number of negative reviews, most of them blaming Darren James Smith "out-of-tune" vocal delivery and seemingly inebriated state for ruining the concert.
In a statement posted on RED DRAGON CARTEL's official web site, Smith wrote: "No excuses: I fucked up.
"I can't believe the band is sticking with me.
"The most sincere apologies to the band and all the Jake fans. You deserved better and you're going to get it."
The RED DRAGON CARTEL webmaster defended Smith in a separate posting, saying: "You fly thousands of miles, have 40 possible songs to create a set with, pick and refine 14 of those, rehearse 'till four in the morning for only four days, with jet jag and strep throat. Then you have a reasonably good soundcheck only to return to the stage to find one of the monitors is out and the teleprompter is set up wrong (it will be gone within a couple of weeks). Mix in some cough syrup and one to many pre-jitter shots. Result, a sub-standard performance from a great singer.
"I have stood in a room while they played together and Darren sings his ass off.
"RED DRAGON CARTEL is about to show the world that they can be a great band and that Darren James Smith is a great singer."
According to RED DRAGON CARTEL, "the huge buzz created by the band's very first show" has led to the group's agency's receiving calls "all the time" with gig offers for before and after the Monsters Of Rock cruise.
RED DRAGON CARTEL's European tour will start in Italy on May 3 and end at a major festival in the U.K. on June 15. After that, more U.S. shows will take place before the band flies to Japan and the rest of Asia in the middle of July. More European and American dates will follow later in the year.
