SLAYER Guitarist KERRY KING: I Don't Need To See A Therapist To Tell Me How I Feel
December 2, 2004SLAYER guitarist Kerry King recently told the Houston Chronicle that you won't see the California thrash-metal pioneers doing group therapy à la METALLICA to keep the band together.
"No way, dude," King said. "No way would you catch us talking to someone about things that aren't working right. If you can't handle your own (expletive) problems, then too bad. I don't need to see somebody to tell me how I feel. METALLICA, they make tons of money. I'd say go figure it out yourselves, guys."
SLAYER always dared to just be SLAYER. In fact, the band's latest release is a DVD documenting a concert performance of its classic album "Reign in Blood", which is nearly 20 years old.
"Grunge came and went, and we never added those elements," King said. "We never alienated our fans by giving them something they didn't ask for, by saying, 'This is who we are right now.' "
SLAYER are using buckets of fake blood that wash over the band on the DVD and at some stops on their current tour.
"People say, 'Why don't you guys use fire?' " King said. "(Expletive) fire. Everybody under the sun uses fire. Let's have a storm of blood."
Of course, like pyrotechnics, fake blood comes with its complications.
"Some of the older blood we used was corn-syrup based. But this new blood we've been using is like WD-40, so my fingers slip all around and make it hard to hit the right notes. But, hey, its part of the job," King laughed. Read more.
