SOIL Guitarist Slams BLABBERMOUTH.NET Detractors
September 27, 2006SOIL guitarist Shaun Glass has issued the following statement in response to the BLABBERMOUTH.NET detractors who have criticized the band for its refusal to play the October 26, 2006 date of the MUSHROOMHEAD/SOIL tour at Columbus, Ohio's Alrosa Villa — the club where PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was murdered:
"We received an e-mail from the mother of Nathan Bray [the fan who was also murdered at Alrosa Villa the night of December 8, 2004] and just hearing her words alone makes me feel proud of my band and what we do. Sorry if our music offends you. You can go buy the latest BURZUM practice tape. Haha. See you on tour."
Glass previously stated about his band's refusal to step into the Alrosa Villa club: "We find it in bad taste that the club is even still standing. I would be sick to my stomach to just walk into that place". Bassist Tim King added, "Maybe other bands can play the club and not be bothered by what happened in there, but as close as we were with Dime and the DAMAGEPLAN camp, we would be unable to get on that stage without breaking down. We hope our fans will understand and respect our decision."
Dimebag's brother/bandmate, DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul, DAMAGEPLAN tour manager Chris Paluska and drum tech John Brooks filed a lawsuit against Alrosa Villa last December, claiming that "there was inadequate security provided at the music venue given the nature and size of the crowd and previous incidents at the club involving criminal activity," according to attorney Gerald Leeseberg, who represented the trio at the time of the filing.
