STAIND's AARON LEWIS: 'I Need To See DONALD TRUMP Be A Little Bit More Freakin' Presidential'

October 13, 2016

STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis, who is widely considered to be one of the most politically conservative musicians in rock, has once again weighed in on the 2016 race for the White House, saying that controversial Republican candidate Donald Trump needs to "be a little bit more freakin' presidential."

Lewis — who calls himself an outspoken Constitutionalist conservative — was asked by Andrew Wilkow of SiriusXM's "The Wilkow Majority" if he will vote for Trump or Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee for president currently averaging around 7 percent in national polls, in the upcoming election. Lewis responded (hear audio below): "I need to see or hear Gary Johnson talk more. I need to hear Gary Johnson talk more and I need to see Donald Trump be a little bit more freakin' presidential. He's running for the office of the president of the United States, and at times he's acting like he's on the recess on a playing field in elementary school. I need him to take on a little bit more of a Ronald Reagan type of stance, of getting those votes from the middle of the road, getting those votes from the left that are in agreement with all of us that [Democratic presidential nominee] Hillary [Clinton] is just completely unacceptable."

Lewis continued:"We need a president who is going to do what Donald Trump has been doing and saying things that nobody wants to say and is afraid to say but is the truth, but he needs to do it in a manner that can be respected by everybody, that there's no holes in it, where no matter what he actually said in the content, he said it in a manner that didn't offend people that didn't believe what he believes. I need some tact from him. I need some gentlemanly behavior, yet still get the point across, still shake the cage, still rattle everything, but I need to see him do it with a little bit more respect for the position that he is trying to attain."

The STAIND frontman has been a staunch critic of President Barack Obama, telling a crowd at one of his solo concerts earlier in the year (see video below): "For the last eight years, I thought our country was going fucking crazy. Barack Obama should have been impeached a long fucking time ago. Every fucking decision he makes is against the Constitution, it's against what's good for our fucking country, and he is truly the worst fucking president that we have ever had in the history of this fucking country. And a hundred years from now, our fucking grandkids will be looking back at this, going, 'What the fuck was going on?' I truly believe that he was elected over three hundred years of guilt… because he is the least qualified, most inept, completely useless president we have ever fucking had."

Lewis told Billboard a few months ago that he would support Trump in the U.S. presidential race, even though he was "disappointed" by the real estate mogul "with the bickering and the name-calling." Lewis added that he voted for Senator Ted Cruz, Trump's closest competitor in the Republican nomination race, in the Massachusetts primary.

Lewis released a new country music solo album called "Sinner" in September.
