THE UNDEAD: Book Excerpts Available Online
November 1, 2006Over the next several days, music writer Joel Gausten will run a series of excerpts from an extensive history of THE UNDEAD on his Myspace page, www.myspace.com/gaustenbooks. Gausten will include the full UNDEAD chapter as part of his upcoming book, titled "Albums that (Should've) Changed the World". The UNDEAD book entry will give special attention to the band's 1989 album "Act Your Rage", the first independently released album to exceed the 30,000 sales mark.
Formed by former MISFITS guitarist Bobby Steele in 1981, the band has continued to thrive in the face of personal and financial misfortunes and fair share of controversy. The subject of much rumor and speculation in the metal and punk scenes, Steele will dispel a number of misconceptions in the upcoming book, including the events surrounding his experiences as a member of the MISFITS.
"I first met Bobby in 1996, when I was doing promotion/publicity work for the MISFITS," say Gausten, who has been the UNDEAD's on-and-off drummer since 1998. "Despite our conflicting opinions about some of the members of that band, we struck up an instant friendship that survives to this day. And while I don't always agree with what the man has to say, he always makes for great copy."
Gausten's upcoming book also features exclusive interviews with past/present members of KISS, BLACK SABBATH, DANZIG, SAMHAIN, PRONG, AEROSMITH, KILLING JOKE, PLASMATICS, RAMONES and many others.
Joel Gausten is the former managing editor of Liner Notes magazine. A longtime musician, he has worked with a number of artists, including PIGFACE and ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN. "Albums that (Should've) Changed the World" is slated for an August 2007 release.
