THIN LIZZY Guitarist Checks In From Basel

October 9, 2008

Guitarist Scott Gorham of the legendary rock band THIN LIZZY has posted the following tour report on the Thin Lizzy Live MySpace page:

"We've been here [Basel, Switzerland] one time before, and I'm guessing that was probably 5-6 years ago. I'd not been to the city center which, to be honest, I didn't know even existed. It's amazing the stuff you discover when you actually walk out the front door of your hotel. The center is an extremely laid-back, old and very cool place to kill a few hours in. You will definitely not see any IRON MAIDEN or MOTÖRHEAD T-shirts worn on the streets here. So as a member of a traveling musical rock combo it did tend to make you wonder if you'd landed on the right planet or not. Still, I did give up my seat on the tram to a couple of nice blue-haired old ladies who were very human. And the town did make me think that it was a pretty cool planet to hang out on.

"Seeing all of us drag our bodies off the bus after a 12-hour ride at 7:00 a.m. that morning would have given you a clue as to how we were all feeling. We all had that Vietnam war, 1000-yard stare thing going for us, so that alone should have been a warning shot. Collectively the jet lag, no days off since the first day in L.A., and the arduous Hannibal like army bus rides through the mountains were definitely taking its toll.

"The gig itself is a great place, great PA, lighting rig is very cool (thanks, Alfredo) and the audience, though a little on the small side, is a good and honed in TL audience to play for. But technical problems (my Floyd Rose system packed up) and a mentally and physically wiped out band does not make for a great gig. It's extremely rare for TL not to come up with the goods.

"So apologies to all those afterwards who wanted to chat and have some pix done, there was an unfamiliar 'brain freeze zone' that was going on, and that obviously comes with sleep deprivation.

"Things look better for tonight."

THIN LIZZY's current touring lineup:
