THOU SHALT SUFFER, AETERNUS, NOCTURNUS To Receive Reissue Treatment
June 1, 2004Beginning on May 4, Candlelight Records will be reissuing numerous out-of-print and previously unavailable releases from Norway's Nocturnal Art Productions and Holland's Karmageddon Media. Among the albums set to receive the reissue treatment are THOU SHALT SUFFER's "Into the Woods of Belial", plus various releases from Norway's AETERNUS, Tampa's NOCTURNUS, Sweden's THYRFING and Ireland's CRUACHAN.
THOU SHALT SUFFER's "Into the Woods of Belial", released only in Europe circa 1997 features old demo and rehearsal material from THOU SHALT SUFFER, the band that pre-dated the official birth of EMPEROR. The U.S. issue includes the highly touted "Open the Mysteriis of Your Creation", originally available and long out-of-print as a limited edition seven-inch. This will mark the first time the recording will be available in the U. S.
Norway's AETURNUS have come to represent a quality band that have found a loyal and growing fan base. The band, featuring former members of some of black/death metal's most respected/notorious (including IMMORTAL and GORGOROTH),have delivered a wealth of powerful recordings. Candlelight, for the June 15 reissue series, has remastered and enhanced each of the band's three critical early recordings — "Beyond the Wandering Moon", "And So the Night Became", and "Shadows of Old". The series comes as the band continue work on their next long-player, expected for fall release (Nocturnal Art Productions for Europe, Candlelight for the U.S.).
NOCTURNUS is deeply embedded in the archives of death metal's early rise to glory. Created by former MORBID ANGEL/INCUBUS drummer/vocalist Mike Browning, the Tampa-based band were the first U.S. band to incorporate keyboards into the then newly-created genre. Touring with BOLT THROWER, NAPALM DEATH, GODFLESH and others, the band released four highly regarded albums before disbanding in 2000. The June 29 release of "The Nocturnus Demos" contains a collection of rare and previously unavailable material from the band's prolific recording history.
Following the recent release of their latest album, "Pagan", the July 27 release of CRUACHAN's out-of-print early recordings traces the beginnings of this unique and highly respected band. Together near ten years, CRUACHAN's blending of black metal and traditional celtic have made for a soundscape that no other can deliver. "Tuatha na Gael" and "Folk-lore" (produced by Shane McGowan of THE POGUES) have been remastered for the series.
The six-piece known as THYRFING have in their near decade-long career amassed a sizeable and loyal worldwide following. With a total of five albums to their credit, the band's mixture of sounds is unlike most of their metal peers and from the start instantly set them apart as a band to watch. All Music Guide call them "top of the Viking-metal heap." Remastered for the series, Candlelight for the first time makes available the band's self-titled debut and the Tommy Tagtgren-produced second album "Valdr Galga".
