TOM MORELLO: No Plans For New RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Studio Album

December 5, 2008

Guitarist Tom Morello has told Billboard.com that fans shouldn't be holding their breath for a new album from RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, which reformed in 2007 after a seven-year break.

"There are no plans for that," Morello told Billboard. "We've had a wonderful year and a half of playing shows, and I don't see any reason to not play more shows. The thing is there's only so many hours in the musical day, and mine are very occupied right now."

Both Tom Morello and vocalist Zack de la Rocha have consistently downplayed the idea of the band recording again. In a rare recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, de la Rocha said, "As far as us recording music in the future, I don't know where we all fit with that. We've all embraced each other's projects and support them, and that's great."

RAGE reunited last year for live work, most recently doing gigs outside both the Democratic and Republican conventions. Morello told The Pulse of Radio he expects the band to continue playing concerts. "The relationship between the four of us is really great now, and we've had a great time playing these RAGE shows and I think everybody's open to doing more performances," he said. "Some of these shows that we've played have been transcendent, have just been awesome, you know, both between the four of us and the relationship between, you know, the band and the audience has been pretty spectacular. So there's no reason why we shouldn't continue doing that."

Morello issued his second solo album as the NIGHTWATCHMAN on September 30, titled "The Fabled City".

De la Rocha's new act, ONE DAY AS A LION, released its self-titled debut EP in July.
