TONY IOMMI: BLACK SABBATH's Cover Of 'Blue Suede Shoes' Was Never Meant To Be Seen

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has told Launch Radio Networks that the group's live version of the rock 'n' roll classic "Blue Suede Shoes", which appears on the DVD portion of the just-released BLACK SABBATH box set "Black Box: The Complete Original Black Sabbath (1970-1978)", was done at rehearsal for a German TV show in the early '70s, and it was never meant to be seen: "That was just a, a run-through for the cameras," Iommi said. "That was a joke, basically. We just started playing that, and Ozzy [Osbourne] hasn't got a clue what the words were. And 'course, you can imagine the bloody shock when we saw it out on TV. We thought, 'My God — what's this?', 'cause it just weren't supposed to be there. And we thought, 'Ah, it's German TV. Nobody's ever gonna see this, anyway,' you know? Little did we know."

The DVD also has live performances of "Iron Man" and "Paranoid", as well as a promotional clip for "Black Sabbath".
