VELVET REVOLVER To Release Live EP, DVD In October
June 28, 2003VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum revealed during an appearance on 97.1 KLSX FM's "Riki Rachtman Radio" Friday night (June 27) that they will be releasing an EP and DVD of the band's June 19 El Rey Theater performance on October 7 through an as-yet-undisclosed label. In addition to the live material, the EP will also include a studio track, which will be released as a single around the same time.
The band, who are rounded out by fellow ex-Gunner Slash (guitar),STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland, and ex-LOADED/SUICIDAL TENDENCIES guitarist Dave Kushner, will perform a couple of live shows in the Los Angeles area in August/September before going into the studio to record a full album, tentatively due in early 2004.
In other news, McKagan recently spoke about former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin's involvement with the project during its early stages. "He came in at one point and wrote probably nine or ten songs with us," Duff explained. "Stuff we haven't even gotten to yet with Scott. But, yeah, last September he came in just as a writing tool, and a friend, and our brother, you know."
VELVET REVOLVER's song "Set Me Free", which is featured on Decca/Universal's soundtrack to "The Hulk", is among the most-requested tracks on alternative stations WBCN in Boston and KROQ in Los Angeles, and is one of the most-downloaded tunes on Apple's new iTunes download service.
