VOLBEAT's ROB CAGGIANO: The Night MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Thought I Drank His Last Beer

January 8, 2015

In the January 2015 issue of Revolver magazine, former ANTHRAX and current VOLBEAT guitarist Rob Caggiano recalled a funny incident from the road involving MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister.

Caggiano said: "We were on a winter tour somewhere in Europe and MOTÖRHEAD's Phil Campbell invited me on their tour bus to hang out. I was with Phil and [drummer] Mikkey Dee in the upstairs lounge, while Lemmy commandeered the downstairs with his old war movies. We were really having a killer time up there drinking booze, listening to music loud as fuck and trading stories. This went on until about 5 a.m., [by] which [time] the three of us were absolutely shitfaced drunk and it was time to get some sleep."

He continued: "The next thing I remember is somebody poking my leg violently over and over again. I finally managed to pry one eye open and what do I see in front of me? Lemmy, wearing nothing but his white stretched-out underwear. He's standing there screaming at me in that unmistakable gravelly voice, 'Did you fucking drink my last beer?!' I sat up straight and said, 'Lem, I swear I didn't touch your beer. We were up here the whole time.' He looked at me in silence for a full minute until he finally said, 'You better not have!' Then he turned around, slammed the door and went back downstairs."

Just when it seemed that VOLBEAT was going to wind down its touring activities in support of 2013's "Outlaw Ladies And Shady Ladies" album, the band apparently got an offer it couldn't refuse and will come back this spring. With support from ANTHRAX and CROBOT, VOLBEAT will hit the road beginning next April 24 in Denver, with the trek closing five weeks later on June 2 in New York City.

Caggiano was actually a member of ANTHRAX before leaving to work as a producer. He co-produced "Outlaw Gentlemen And Shady Ladies" before being asked to join VOLBEAT as a full-time member.

VOLBEAT took part in last fall's U.S. tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, ending with an appearance at SLIPKNOT's Knotfest in California.

Frontman Michael Poulsen has said recently that he would like to take several months off before beginning work on VOLBEAT's sixth album this summer.
