International 'Fastest Drummer Contest' To Be Held At NAMM
January 8, 2006NAMM International has announced its fourth annual quest to find the "World's Fastest Drummer." this highly charged interactive event will be a feature at this year's NAMM Winter Session in Anaheim, Ca. The contest, which consist of two categories, "Fastest Hands" and "Fastest Feet", will be held each day in NAMM's Exhibit at Booth #4799 Hall "C" starting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, with "heats" continuing through Friday and Saturday until 4:00 p.m. The top ten "Fastest Hands" and top ten "Fastest Feet" will compete in a "Finals Battle" of both categories held on NAMM's main outside stage at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22.
Included in this year's event will be technical demonstrations, insight sessions and appearances by WFD champions Mike Mangini, Art Verdi, Johnny Rabb, Tim Waterson, Seth Davis, Sam LeCompte and Jotan Afanador. "To see these guys go at it, full throttle, smooth as silk with their hands and feet moving over 19-20 times per second for an entire minute is simply an amazing work of technical proficiency," says Boo McAfee, co-founder of Extreme Sport Drumming.
The NAMM International Fastest Drummer Contest is sponsored by TheMusicEdge.Com, NAMM's new teen promotional initiative and is open to everyone attending this year's NAMM Winter Session (NAMM is a "trade only" convention and is not open to the general public). "The contests are taking place at stores all over the world, like Johnson Music Center in Hutchinson, Kan., George's Drum Shop in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Sam Ash stores nationwide," explains Craig Alan, co-founder of Extreme Sport Drumming. "Plus international locations such as St. John's Music in Canada, Key-WI Music in Germany, Allan's Music in Australia, Tom Lee Music in China, Paul Bothner Music in South Africa and Tomsun Trading in the United Arab Emirates. The store's winner can advance to compete for over $12,000 in Grand Prizes!"
All contestants for both "Fastest Hands" and "Fastest Feet" competitions will be scored on playing single strokes (no bounces, presses or buzz) for ONE MINUTE and recorded by the Drumometer. Grand prizes for this year’s contest include: Two Pearl drum sets, a year supply of ProMark drum sticks (with winner’s name),two sets of Meinl cymbals, Axis LongBoard "A" double pedal, 50 Remo drum heads, a year subscription to Drum! magazine and much more!
